WALGETT
By John Reddin

Well I’ve never been to Walgett
On the far side of the hill
I’ve never been to Walgett
And I guess I never will

I’ve been to Mullumbimby
And to old Kalgoorlie town
Been across to Thargomindah
Had a look at Daintree’s crown

But I’ve never been to Walgett
Never seen their streets of gold
Yes I’d like to go to Walgett
Before I get much too old

There were girls in Coober-Pedy
And a fight in Pinnaroo
Got myself drunk in “The Alice”
Down to Tassie. Been there too.

But I've never been to Walgett
Just turn left at Byron Bay
No I’ve never been to Walgett
Going to get there one fine day

I heard “Makka” on the radio
Right out the back of Bourke
And a policeman out in Emerald
Made me do some social work

But I’ve never been to Walgett
Never found it on the map
No I’ve never been to Walgett
Heard the Mayor’s a decent chap

So I’m making plans for Walgett
Going to get there if I can
Yes I’m heading off to Walgett
Goin’ to track down my old man

'Cause the coot just up and left us
Me and Mum and little Joe
And I’m goin’ to give him “what for”
Off to Walgett I will go

So I’ve never been to Walgett
Don’t know where the hell it is
But I’m goin’ to go to Walgett
Goin’ to make that old town Fizz!
